The following video has shown us how to share files between Windows XP and Windows Vista. If we use Windows 7 beta instead of Windows Vista, the method is similar. The only difference is that in Network and Sharing Center, you need to click Change advanced sharing settings in the left pane and then enable File Sharing, Network Discovery, etc. YouTube - File Sharing - Windows Vista & Windows XP In 4 Minutes If you could not see the Windows XP computer from the Windows 7 beta computer, you may also disable the anti-virus and firewall on the Windows XP computer and check the result. If the above suggestions do not help, enter ipconfig /all in Command Prompt and paste the result in your post.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I've tried a number of things suggested in this forum and still couldn't get the 7 beta to recognize my XP systems. I was using Network Magic on the other machines, so I went ahead and installed it on the 7 system and it works perfectly. Everything is visible to all systems (1 7 beta, 2 XP pro and 1 XP Home on laptop). File and printer sharing also works smoothly. I have an older version of Network Magic (4.9) - the latest is 5.1. It's inexpensive (they even have a free version) and reduces network headaches such as systems disappearing from network for no apparent reason, and access denied errors. The problem with 7 is that it's not as configurable as XP (no experience with Vista, but I understand there are problems with mxing XP and Vista systems also). 7 was designed to work simply with other 7 systems, but I think Microsoft needs to make it easier to work with XP systems which still make the the bulk of home systems.
